A history of innovationArmstrong has a history of innovation and wise use of resources. Our flooring business began in 1909 by recycling cork waste to make linoleum for homes and commercial buildings. We’ve been manufacturing linoleum, made of 100% natural ingredients, for 100 years, and now we’ve dramatically simplified maintenance for Linoleum with NATURcote. In 2008, we introduced Migrations BioBased Tile, a revolutionary new commercial flooring material made from rapidly renewable ingredients. In 2009, we launched Tierra, the industry’s most rapidly renewable acoustical ceiling, and DC FlexZone, a new ceiling “plug and play” grid system that distributes low voltage DC power, like solar and wind, to lighting fixtures, sensors, computer and other electrical devices. We have the largest industry portfolio of ceilings and suspension systems with high recycled content; low and no added formaldehyde Forest Stewardship Council-certified WoodWorks ceilings; Ekos Woodworks walls; and the industry’s first closed-loop Ceiling Recycling Program that has diverted more than 35,000 tons of construction waste from landfills.
